Advice for a gap year or otherwise

So here it goes. I tried to avoid posting here but i have now been able to overcome my post rejection/wait list depression lol. I scored a 1520 in my SAT with a 22 in the essay, 10 A*s in my GCSEs alongside a world distinction in Commerce, a regional distinction in Accounting. I further on went to get 3 As in my AS Level ( the highest you can get here is an A) and another distinction for the highest marks scored in any three AS Level subjects across my home country. My parents could only afford to pay $5000 per annum for my education and i guess that factored in greatly in the decisions that were later made. I applied to UPenn, Uchichago, Babson, W&L, Wesleyan and Cornell. I applied early action to Chicago and ED (it was non restrictive) to UPenn only to get deferred and later on straight up rejected. I did manage to get into McGill ( waiting on it to reject my aid application lol) and Jacobs University, Bremen. Right now the only viable option i have is to go to Jacobs so take this post as you may but i would like to ask some questions. Should i continue with Jacobs or take a gap year? and was my humongous requirement for aid a factor in these rejections? since most of them are need aware.

It looks like you are an international applicant.

At US colleges and universities, admission for international applicants who do not need financial aid is significantly more difficult than for US applicants. Chances are that your financial need wasn’t even a factor at all. There were just a bazillion other applicants like you.

Is Jacobs affordable for you? Then go there.

You should also look for affordable options in your home country.

Mcgill sound like a good option if they offer you a scholarship. The Canadian dollar is low so it should be fairly inexpensive for a top school.
(you may be able to defer Jacob’s?)
What were your ec’s?
Who reviewed your essays (any specialist from this site, for instance?)
Did you have subject tests? TOEFL if necessary?
Can you take a gap year, work/volunteer/ do something special, and create a better list?
