Advice for bright 7th Grade Duke TIP Girl

Like other posts on here, I can only recommend the Duke TIP programs as those are the only ones we have had any experience. If her scores qualify her for the TIP programs, check out what they are offering. My D took the online course because going away that year didn’t work out. She learned a lot and got a taste of different teaching/learning techniques. This year she will attend the Institute of Human Genetics at Duke. Another girl in our town attended Davidson’s writing program (I think was also through Duke TIP). I’m not sure of the age requirements for other programs (or score requirements), but there is a section on this site specifically for summer programs. Check that out, as there are several listed if she is specifically interested in MIT, Cornell, etc.
Good luck!

My son is a 5th grader. He is trying to sign up for the Explore test in Spring so he went to join so other kids in a SAT class. They did a mockup SAT and he got 1870 (M+W+R). Is there a way to predict his Explore based on this score?

There is a great gifted program for kids age 12-18 in eastern WA called Satori. It’s held at Eastern WA U but is not run by that school. You do not need to test in and can self-report as gifted. It’s a week in late July and is far more affordable than the more well-known summer gifted programs. D went last summer and took classes in design and journalism, but the offerings cover a pretty wide range. She loved it so much she plans to spend some of her own money to attend next summer. Because it’s only a week long, D had plenty of time to do the other summer things she had in mind. I’m not worried about the SAT’s yet-she’s just in 8th grade, but the state testing she’s taken make it clear she’ll do fine once she does taken them. She tested as gifted years ago, though in her former school district.

Wow, what a blast from the past getting a reply message in my email from a post to this thread I posted on in 2006!! Just wanted to update you all since my post back then. My daughter had taken the SAT through TIP back then and did well. She has since gone on to achieve so much and is in her 2nd year of medical school…her dream. We are very proud of her!!
