Advice for Engineers and Comp Sci Majors

Hi there! I’m a current EE student and have taken the beginning CS classes. I am also a systems engineer on a rocket project. Let me know if you have any questions about the engineering program and its rigors as well as student groups. Anyone is free to answer questions as well.

I have a question…why did you choose UCLA engineering over other programs you applied to? What made it stand out to you? I’ve heard pros (obviously, the reputation of the school overall) and cons (class size, quality of and access to professors) and would love to get a current student perspective. (Prospective Computer Engineering major). Thanks!

@MrRobot5x5 I was in a unique situation in that UCLA was my number 2 and I didn’t get my number 1 so it was an easy choice. I had fallen in love with UCLA. I did compare to UCSD for EE but UCLA had a better campus life, athletics, and campus which I really care about. It’s also much more social. The classes are large but discussion are helpful. There are a lot of resources too specifically for engineering. The school is pretty prestigious but we are more well known for other majors outside of engineering. It’s not a super technical program cause we have a fair amount of GEs and everything is very theoretical.

@MrRobot5x5 Professors are hit and miss. I have had great ones where they knew my name. My first quarter english professor actually wrote me a letter of rec. But in general, the professors are pretty impersonal since classes are 2-3 hundred people. My GE is 477. To get hands on experience join clubs or take Engr 96 which is basically a project class.
