In the hopes that the next few days are not completely dominated by US News discussions, I am starting this thread so that alumni, current students and parents of these can post advice for incoming First Years. This can be specific to U Chicago or just general college advice, anything you feel that we should keep in mind once October 1st comes around and classes officially start. Any advice pertaining to Orientation Week would also be appreciated. Also, if anybody wants to share a general overview of their/their child's experience (did you evolve as individuals? Did U Chicago help you reach any specific goals?) at U Chicago then that would also be very welcome :).

Yes, advice would be greatly appreciated (Thank you, PMCM18!)
I actually feel more nervous about orientation than actually starting college…

I look forward to reading responses to your request PMCM18. In the meantime, these are two of my favorite U Chicago threads on CC; I bookmarked them both for my S’16. Yes, they are very old (both started in 2008) but somehow I don’t think they are all that dated. I don’t know where unalove is now–successfully enjoying life out in the world, I hope–but she provides some wonderful universal truths here, as well as info specific to, and I believe still applicable to life at U Chicago.

Thanks a lot Mutti2012, and thanks a lot to unalove, wherever she may be.
