Hi, I am currently a sophomore in HS and Penn and it is my #1 choice for various reasons. I’m in the IB program, I already have 100 hours of community service and many other awards, Varsity Soccer (planning to do for next 2 years), and orchestra planning on continuing for the next 2 years too. Any advice just for classes or from your experience? Anything will help, I am willing to do anything it takes to give me a chance. Thank you
Take the most challenging courses at your high school, and succeed not only through excellent grades but through your increased knowledge and passion. Go as much beyond the minimum as your ability and curiosity allow.
Thank you!! @fogcity
I would recommend that you make effective use of your summer break. Explore your interests, prep for the SAT/ACT, read books, take a college course you are interested in, anything that moves you forward. When you are targeting the best schools in the world, you have to capture your opportunities to move forward, or you will be falling behind.
Penn wants a well rounded individual, not just someone textbook smart. Make yourself come off as the ultimate all rounder. You have great extra curriculars and community service too so great! Having said that, academics are first and foremost, the SAT is incredibly important. Don’t waste your summers, the applicant pool is so competitive
Thank you, I will definitely look towards the summer programs!!
Definitely find something cool and unique to do as a hobby, no matter how late it is. Colleges love a good hobby essay.
The essay this year was “Why Upenn?” Sorta boring if you ask me, but be sure you take time to know the campus well.
Unless you’re aiming for Wharton. I have no idea what happens there. Those people scare me.
