Advice for high school sophomore?

Hello! This question is for current Penn applicants and students.

What are your suggestions for a current sophomore who hopes to attend Penn one day?

Are there any things you wish you knew back when you were an underclassman? If you could go back to sophomore year, what would you advise yourself? What would you do differently?

I am asking this because I've always wanted to attend Penn. I visited the campus several years ago and loved the campus atmosphere--the pace of everything just felt right, and the students were extremely welcoming.

Currently, I am taking the hardest courses available while in the top 1% of my suburban public school. My main commitment is my part-time job for the regional newspaper, where I am the youth representative/reporter. I also participate in DECA club and a philanthropic organization, both of which are only hobbies (although I recieved some regional recognition), since most of my time is spent as a reporter.

I actually really enjoy all these activities, so I don't mind putting in a lot of time to work things out. However, a couple of upperclassmen recently suggested that I focus on SAT preparation. Would you advise this as well? Is there a timeline of high school that I should follow, especially if I want to apply to Penn?

Lastly, can you explain the different undergrad options at Penn? I've heard about CAS, Wharton, and a nursing program, but that's the extent of my understanding.

Thank you so much for offering your insight! I sincerely appreciate any feedback.

Bump :)? I’d appreciate any feedback!

My advice (seriously) is to chill and do what you like best. Like, don’t get back on CC until two years from now.
Also get good grades. If you’re sub 10% you’re gonna get owned.

I don’t know, tenth grade isn’t too early, some of the kids on here are in 8th grade. honestly, I wish I had found this site earlier, it at least opens ones eyes to the true level of competition that exists.

So advice to you, keep doing what you are doing, you seem to have passion, the grades and all of that, so really you should be fine if you keep everything up. Get some leadership positions, take your SAT’s in junior year so you don’t have to worry senior year.

Take ACT/SAT junior year, decide which one you like better, then study for that one.

Thanks for the insight!
