advice for incoming first-years?

heyy I (along with other first-years) would really appreciate any advice from current or former MHC students on what to expect and prepare for over the summer b4 coming to campus in the fall! this could be anything from something impt to bring to campus, academic advice, social advice or anything to just mentally prepare for. thanks!

Hi! Expect to meet a lot of great people and also have a lot thrown at you in the first few days. But the latter is actually a really good thing. MHC does a great job of making sure incoming students are appropriately oriented to everything you need to know to be a student at MHC. I remember being so nervous on the first day but there is no need. There are SO so many friendly and helpful people at MHC eager to make your transition as easy as possible.

Things I was happy I brought-

a fan

extra power strips (you’ll have a lot more things you need to plug in than you might expect)

a planner (you can buy in the campus store but mine as well get that ahead of time if you want to)

a mattress pad (makes all the difference!)

As far as academic advice goes I would just urge you to be as outgoing and open to new things as possible. Everyone meets with their advisor at least once during the first couple of weeks as I recall and it’s a good idea to come to him/her with questions ready. Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with a stranger (I doubt you will be since the vast majority of MHC students are beyond approachable and extroverted). Mostly just have fun…the first few weeks are some of the most exciting! :)
