Advice for juniors-College Rankings

From the beginning of my college seach junior year up to recently, I paid very close attention to college rankings, mainly US News. However I have discovered that in the end, none of that matters. You should NEVER visit a school or apply to a school because US News or someone else tells you how good it is. How many of you actually read how US News comes up with these rankings? It is all based on statistics! There is no research into what day to day classes are like or how the school is run.I must appluad Reed College in Oregon for their strong stand against the rankings.

In the end, choose the school that best fits you! Don't go to a school because of its name thinking you will have a good time. Never feel inferior around friends or peers who are attending better schools(According to who?) because once you arrive at the college of your choice, I don't think you will find too many who feel inferior about their choice to attend that school.

Finally, don't feel inferior if your stats don't match those of the students on College Confidential. For some reason or another, this website attracts a very high percentage of top students. Or, dare I say they might be lying about their stats? (Shriek!)

Thanks, this was really good advice!

Thanks for sharing your insights. People should never use the US News rankings to base it on where you're going. It seems that the reason why some schools can't move up the list is because they don't have a large endowment fund. Obviously, some of the ranking on there are unjustified.

It's not what college you get into, it's what you do in your time there.
