I plan on applying for BC RD, but am worried about how my essay will be perceived. I wrote my Common App essay about questioning my Catholic beliefs, and ultimately realizing that I did not identify as Catholic anymore because I disagreed with many of the Church’s teachings. Given that BC is a Catholic Jesuit college, will they not take the essay well? It’s definitely a well written essay that I’m proud of, and expect all my non-Catholic schools to be somewhat impressed by, but could it hurt my application with BC? Are they allowed to discriminate on those types of things?
No, they are not allowed to discriminate based on your religious beliefs. They might even agree with you on some of your points, as I know they have distanced themselves with some of the higher church members due to the Boston archdiocese’s sexual abuse cases. I am applying RD for BC as well! good luck!
They are not supposed to discriminate, but I think its risky just the same to send that essay to a Catholic College
Yeah, I agree with @oscar63 . Sure they cant discriminate, but your app could still be put in the reject pile.
Here is the fix: replace “Catholic” with “Baptist.” Done.
