Advice for URS?

I found out I was accepted into URS (undergraduate research scholars) today as an incoming freshman, and now I’m debating about whether I should do the program or not.

I am thinking of doing a biochemistry major on a pre-med track, so I am very interested in getting into research at Madison. However, my chemistry class (Chem 115-116) already offers a research experience in spring semester, and I already have a possible connection for getting a summer research position elsewhere. Would doing URS be rather redundant in this situation and not worth the time? Additionally, I already have 16 credit hours for this semester, and adding URS would make it 18-19 credits, which makes me worried about being overwhelmed in my freshman year. I looked at their handbook as well and it does seem like a hefty time commitment.

Would anyone who has been in URS/knows people in URS be willing to share their thoughts about how helpful URS was?
