Advice/Help on application/admission into Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program?

Hey Guys,

I currently am finishing my Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from UNLV.

Overall GPA: 3.2
GRE: 155/158/4.5 (V,Q,A)
Have been interning at the utility company for 8 months.
No research experience.

I am currently planning on applying for acceptance to:
University of Cincinnati
University of Toledo
University Colorado Denver
University of Houston
UNLV

To make matters a bit more confusing, I transferred to UNLV during my Junior year with a 3.77 GPA…When I transferred, my GPA started back at a 0.00. I now have a 2.94 UNLV GPA and a 3.2 overall GPA (includes my first year calculus, chemistry, physics etc.)

I am pretty concerned at my dreams being crushed and not being accepted into the schools I am applying to. Was wondering if anyone had any advice and or any experience with the said schools and similar GPAs?

Thank you,

The fact that your GPA for upper division courses is lower than that of your introductory courses is going to be a problem. If your interest is a Ph.D. then it might be better for you to start with a M.S. and show how you can do in a graduate program. You have a reasonable choice of programs, My suggestion is to apply and see what happens. You should have a backup plan though and keep in mind that having a few years of experience as an engineer might actually be a plus if you apply in a couple of years.

@xraymancs thanks for the input! just to clarify, I am applying for an MS in Biomedical Engineering (not a Ph.D); however, I do hope that i can up my GPA in the masters degree in order to qualify for PhD. With that being said, if I were to take the GRE once again to get say a 161 or so in the quantitative, do you think that could change things by any chance?

Yes, raising the quantitative score will help. Since you are applying for a Masters, you will have a better chance. Be prepared to self-fund though.
