My son is 15 yrs. old and a rising high school sophomore. He took AP Chemistry this year and worked through the microchem kit from Quality Science Labs. He would like to continue his study of chemistry this upcoming year, and I am trying to find a mentor at a local college so my son can complete the Olympiad level labs in a "real lab" using macro-scale equipment.

I have contacted two local 4-year colleges with no success. In both cases, I was able to find a professor that was willing to work with my son, but the administration would not permit it due to liability issues. We offered to sign waivers and enroll my son part-time, but we were still denied.

My son thinks that he will want to go on to medical school, and I have read various posts that medical schools would prefer that an applicant take no community college science courses, even in high school - otherwise I would simply enroll him in a class at the cc.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I can try?

Thanks.
