Advice needed.

Ok in my junior year (i am such a idiot, my most important year), i started to lose focus. I lost alot of my friends to drugs, and there was complicated separation issues within my family. Now i was wondering where i could most strongly portray how this impacted my grades. The thing is, i was in "rigorous" courses and got mostly A- and B+. But in all honesty, i did minimal work. I really want to portray that i could have easily done better. I wanted to show this through acing all my APs this year, but i dont know if colleges look at senior grades.

I was thinking about writing my essay on it, but i thought a bunch of kids would be writing about overcoming adversity

there is a part of the application where you or your college counselor can explain this. definitely talk to your counselor about how to explain it, though, because you want to make sure it doesn't sound like you are simply making excuses. Don't write your main essay on it, though- unless you could actually make a really spectacular essay out of it, I would choose a different topic for your main essay.
