Advice on getting into Hotchkiss, Choate, Andover, Groton, and Loomis

Hi all- this is the first time I’m posting a thread so bare with me.
I’m an 8th grader apply for 9th grade at Hkiss, Choate, Andover, Groton, and Lmis. I’m a full asian male, but I was born and raised in America. I live in the New England area, and attend a pretty good public middle school that sends many kids to elite private school.

SSAT:
I haven’t taken this yet, but I was getting around 20/25 right on math, 25/40 for reading, and 42/60 for verbal on the official SSAT online practice. I also heard that the online practice was harder so… thoughts?

Grades:
English: 94
Math: 96.5
Science: …
French: 79, but my french teacher told me I could do a retake on the quiz that brought my grade down.
Social Studies: 94
Orchestra: 100
This was just the beginning of the school year so there’s plenty of room for improvement

EC’s:

  • cross country and track at the school level, though I made first heat for the 400m and both my mom and my brother ran track, my mom was number 2 in all of Beijing so I come from a decent running family I guess. Do you think I should bring this up at the interview?
  • competitive swimming 3 years, but it wasn’t in any higher up leagues so I’m not sure if this is very useful.
  • mathcounts, i’ve done this for 2 years
  • Piano, I’ve played the piano for around 5-6 years. I did a few recitals when I was younger, but now I continue out of enjoyment and not competition. I was considering sending in a video of me playing a piece like moonlight sonata 3rd movement.
  • Violin, for around 4 years with the school orchestra.
  • I’ve started a tutoring organization that gave kids like myself a chance to help out other kids who might be struggling in math.
  • I used to play soccer and even made club teams, but then I moved and stopped playing for about 2 years. I still do summer soccer camps, and I’m hoping to bring this up during my interviews with Hotchkiss.

I think that’s basically all I have to say. My teachers all seem to like me, especially my Math teacher. I think I can get a good recommendation from my counselor, because I volunteered to help a new kid from China around the school. If anyone has any tips for me, or any schools they think I should apply to I’m all ears.

Thanks if you made it this far

  • your sir.penguin
