Advice on taking pre med reqs at a CC

I took Organic Chemistry I during at my high school in a community college program where we could take CC classes as high school students. I'll be taking Orgo 2 in the Fall. I received an A- in Orgo 1 at the CC. How do you think medical schools will look at this? Will getting a B or A- in Orgo 2 at my university make me look better?

Also, how do you feel medical schools will feel about an applicant who received an A in Physics 1 at his university but an A- in physics 2 after taking it over the summer at a CC?

Don’t take prerequisite courses at a CC. There may be exceptions, but you haven’t presented any evidence that you would be in a “exceptional” category.

Use what you have, do not take pre-reqs in a SUMMER, even at your own UG, let alone CC.

In certain circumstances, people will have to take Summer courses but you should note that you cannot do anything but study when doing this because of summer school pace. In that regards, MiamiDAP is right. If you’re like me or any other colleagues I know who can’t fit these prereqs with their major, then take no more than 2 prereqs. Anymore than that will raise a red flag as far as I know. Just don’t take them at a community college and if you’ve done that already, don’t do it again.

Don’t take any more premed classes at CCs or during the summer…unless maybe the class is sociology or psychology (others can chime in here, but I doubt med schools will care much about those classes).

Aim for A’s in all your premed prereqs that you still have to take at your univ. Be sure to get an A in Orgo II to “back up” your CC class of Orgo I.

When and where did you take Gen Chem? when are you taking bio?

I took Gen Chem during high school. I took one semester of Bio during my freshman year at my university and will be taking the rest of bio and all other prereqs at my university. Do you guys think my med school chances are shot after taking more than 2 prereqs at a CC (though some prereqs were taken during my high school career at the CC)?

No, your chances aren’t shot.
