I am a junior at a private catholic school. I transferred to my school sophomore year and my grades were terrible but I have a medical reason for them being so poor. Junior year though, I have brought them all up and my unweighted gpa is a 3.65 and my act score is a 32. I have over 150 hours of community service, I am a camp counselor over the summer, and I have participated in 3 sports. I am very interested in Villanova University. I am also Jewish, and because I attend a catholic I add a little bit of diversity. I was wondering if I have a chance at Villanova, and I was considering writing my essay on how I have become a more well rounded person from experiencing both religions. I currently take 2 AP classes and an above grade level math course. Any input would be great.
Thank you!!

As long as you have a medical reason for poor grades your first year, then you’re fine. Any leadership would help but your 150+ hours of community service may cover that a little especially since catholic schools like to see community service. I think you’ll be fine! Being Jewish and applying to a catholic school gives you a diversity edge and with EC’s it’s quality over quantity and you seemed to be dedicated. Knock out your essays and you should be ok!

Betweenthetrees, thanks so much for the advice!!
