what ec 's are considered “strong?” I mean I am a rising junior by sept and I honestly do not think I have done something big other than several clubs&teams. If I were to make clubs, what clubs are there that are considered “impressive?” I am fine with any club, just want some ideas being that our school does not offer many clubs. btw how big of a role does et play in application also
IMO school clubs in general usually aren’t that impressive. Starting clubs just to fill your Common App doesn’t impressive anyone. Can’t you think of anything better than school clubs?
like…?
It would be great if you guys can give examples and advice…I want to get things started and I don’t have great ideas
Doesn’t your school have any clubs right now that are considered “impressive”?
our school has like 10 or less lol
and some impressive ones include debate club, science olympiad
Debate sounds like a good activity.
I mean it kinda is impressive, but I want to do something extra
You’re in a Catch 22. The ECs that seem to stand out from the rest of the crowd are a result of sincere effort, not done for the sake of standing out. There is no way that you can make an EC impressive without sincere, dedicated effort because you really truly enjoy the activity.
I don’t think it really matters about what club is impressive or not, but more on how dedicated you are to the clubs. Colleges would rather see 4 years of dedication to Video Game Club than a semester of dedication to Debate Club.
That kinda sounds right but I dont have much clubs that I dedicated to since freshmen yr except math club/team, and 1 yr of orchestra which I will continue. thats pretty much it… so I was thinking of making new ones
Don’t join a club just to fill a space on the common app. Honestly, colleges would rather see a short list of activities/clubs that you have been committed to over the past four years than a mish-mash of this and that for a year. Make sure you are involved in things that matter to you.
Ok…If I was to make new clubs tho as a junior, what could they be?
