I’m a sophomore in high school and the end of the year is closing. I have a 4.3 GPA, got a 1280 on PSAT. I play soccer and baseball btw. Freshman year I was a board member of a teen philantopy group that raised money for different organizations, (I quit this year for a few different reasons). Since 8th grade I’ve been working at a religious school 3 hours a week helping younger kids. The problem is I get paid, so it isn’t volunteering. This year I haven’t done any volunteering, should I be worried and start doing something?
I would personally focus on improving that PSAT score rather than worrying about volunteering. Volunteer work is the same as any other ec to colleges.
In my county, you are required to complete 24 hours of community service (basically volunteering), so I would check the graduation requirements just in case.
There are no graduation requirements for volunteering, I’m just worrying that I’m not doing enough volunteering because I hear it matters for a lot of colleges.
Volunteering is overrated as a statistic for admissions, but not for your personal growth. If you do it, it should be because you want to.
