Advisable to CLEP out of chemistry (if pursuing ME or EE)

Do I need chemistry the way I need calculus for mechanical or electrical engineering?

Does your degree plan have you taking multiple chemistry classes (after a general engineering chemistry class)? My degree plan had only one semester of engineering chemistry and nothing afterwards. I CLEP’ed chemistry earlier this summer with my advisor’s approval.

It only requires one semester of general chemistry. Do material classes under Mechanical engineering count?

Check to see if any courses that you will take list the chemistry course as a prerequisite. If not, skip it with your allowed CLEP credit. If the chemistry course is a prerequisite for something that you will take, try the old final exams for that chemistry course to see how well you know the material that is taught in it.

No course requires chemistry as a prereq. Thanks ucbalamnus! Second question: my school only requires 1 semester of general chemestry (4Credit Hour) but my school’s CLEP policy allows those who pass be able to get credit for both gen chem 1 and 2 (8 Credit hour). If I pass CLEP, should I take the 8 credit hour or only the 4 or does it matter?
