<p>Your post had some excellent advice (my inability to resist being a smartass notwithstanding…).</p>
<p>I guess there are things I would point out if they showed up in a test like SAT but normaly would just pass them.
for example,

<p>There are facebook groups for ‘they’re, their and there’, as well as ‘to, two and two’.</p>
<p>OP, if you can get your hands on the AP Stylebook, it would be really helpful as you build your skills. I knew journalism was meant for me (well, in my first career many eons ago) when I discovered that I loved to sit down, skim through the AP Stylebook and memorize stuff. Even the most veteran of journalists will have a copy at their fingertips at all times. You can’t possibly know everything, but when you get familiar with the content, it’s easier to refer to.</p>
<p>One person I know volunteered 2 months in the summer in a local TV station and decided that was not what she wanted, even though for years her mind was set on becoming a TV journalist. Anyway, that’s the way to find out what you really want.</p>
