Advise on getting into the Broadcast Journalism program

My daughter is interested in applying to UNC for 2017 fall class. She is a track & Field Hockey athlete, in the top 10 of her class, 3.8 GPA, Student Council Vice President, member of the National Honor Society, she has taken all honor classes, AP and IB classes. She is teen ambassador for an organization whose focus is on Domestic Abuse, she talks to College students, high School students and Middle School on the dangers of relationship abuse. She is interested in majoring in Broadcast journalism, what are her chances of getting into this program? She will take her ACT in September. What advise can you give to help her when applying to this school?

Are you in state or out of state?

out of state

Out of state is tough. Last year the OOS acceptance rate was 19%. By law they can’t take more than 18%, so I was surprised that they took 19%. Is your daughter recruitable? My advice is to keep the class rank and test scores as high as possible, focus on the extra curriculars- they are very good and show community involvement- and write really good essays. It is hard to tell for OOS students but if your daughter continues on her current path, she certainly seems like a good candidate. Good luck!
