AEM Applicants

I called Cornell and they told me that although AEM is in CALS, there are no rolling decisions for AEM applicants.

I saw a couple of posters on here say that they received early acceptances to AEM, but I believe that they were ED applicants that Cornell decided to respond to first.

ED applicants were all notified of their decision in December. Maybe the people who posted got likely letters?

I meant “deferred ED applicants”.

Whew. I’m an AEM applicant so I panicked when everybody got their likely letters (everybody is a freaking Bio major at my school…)

OKAY. I hope we all get in crosses fingers

Whoa. I got a letter from the university’s main admissions office distinctly stating that the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences had approved my application; and I chose AEM as my major. In fact, I’ll type it out.

Dear xxx:

Congratulations! The admissions selection committee in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences has approved your application to Cornell University for the fall of 2010. I am delighted to share this wonderful news with you and to welcome you to the Cornell community.

Cornell’s admission selection process was especially competitive this year given the record-high number of applications received as well as consideration of applicants for primary and alternate choice admission. The academic strength and strong personal qualities of the students who applied for admissions made our deliberations very challenging, so we are pleased to extend this offer of admission to you.

As you celebrate your admission to Cornell, I want you to also consider and reflect upon the words and wisdom of founder Ezra Cornell: “I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study.” Cornell University is a living and learning community committed to fostering person discovery and growth, nurturing scholarship and creativity, and engaging and enriching the human spirit of women and men from around the world. I look forward to having you join the students and faculty here who, together, contribute to the tradition of excellence, intellectual ingenuity, and diversity that has always distinguished Cornell University.

In early April, you will receive the Case for Cornell packet that will include information on reserving your place in class, housing and dining, as well as information about Cornell Days, a program designed specifically for students who have been admitted to Cornell. Please note that our offer of admission is contingent on your satisfactorily completing any school work now in progress, and on your continuing to uphold high standards of character in activities outside the classroom. In addition, if you applied for financial aid and have completed your financial aid application, your award notification will be mailed from the Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment. If you did not apply for financial aid, you will receive a brochure that will describe various financing options.

Congratulations again on your admission to Cornell University. I trust that your Cornell experience will be academically rewarding and personally enriching.

With best regards,

Just skimming through your posts, it looks like you were deferred. My theory is that they took the deferred students that they liked, but those who applied in the regular round would not benefit from rolling admissions.

This is just my theory, however, from talking to somebody on the phone.

i’m an aem major and i got an early letter when i applied.
