yo just out of curiosity, do aerospace / mechanical engineers get paid good money? and is it better to do aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering or aerospace and comp sci?

Yeah, their salaries are pretty good (comparing them to other types of engineers). I think that a lot of aeros end up working for contractors and they pay pretty well. If you end up working for the federal government you won’t get paid as much but you’ll have a lot of benefits/job security.

As far as which one to do, which one interests you more? Any salary discrepancy isn’t going to be worth working a job you don’t like versus one that you do.

lol i’m more interested in combining it w/ comp sci, but i really don’t know how useful that would be. also, i read on some other forums that most people don’t hire aerospace engineers and instead just hire mechanical engineers in their place XD thats why im considering double majoring in mech / aero. not to mention the courses for the 2 are similar at UCI i think so yea

overall tho i wanna do aerospace / comp sci XD

^That’s kind of what I want to do. In my opinion, it would be redundant (could be a good thing- less work) to double major in aerospace and mechanical, as many of the classes would be the same until you get into the upper level electives (bachelor’s in mechanical and phD or masters in aero wouldn’t be a bad idea, though). As far as job prospects, large aero firms hire all kinds of engineers (aero, mech, materials, chem, and computer science). And computer science engineers make a lot of money (especially the really good ones), in case you were interested.

but redundancy is kind of a good idea when double majoring

at my school, the coursework is SO similar, i need only take ONE! extra class to pick up a double in mech/aero.

^Yeah, but redundancy is bad if you want to get a lot of breadth in engineering fields, which it seems like the OP wanted. If the OP had your scenario, I’d recommend him to triple major because he seemed to like comp-sci a lot.

lol yea at UCI u need like 4 extra classes i think XD

yeah minez for UCD

personally, i dont have any room in my schedule (literally 4 classes for 3 quarters for 4 years then graduate) unless i want to take 5 classes/quarter.

if you like comp sci then yeah pick up the extra classes and do what you love.
