Aerospace Systems Engineering

I will be going into graduate school but was wondering what is the difference, if any, of aerospace engineering and aerospace systems engineering? The school I am at offers MAE undergraduate degrees but for the Masters, they offer Mechanical Engineering Degree and the only thing aerospace related is 'Aerospace Systems Engineering'. Is this a field I would go in if I want to pursue Aerospace Engineering further? Just not sure if there is a difference or not.

They are related. Aerospace systems engineering is sort of a subset of aerospace engineering that concerns itself with the various systems in an aircraft and how they fit/work together. They don’t really design the individual systems themselves, buy more how they will all work together, presumably to help make the overall design better. Beyond that, I only have a vague knowledge of all the sorts of things they do. I know there is a lot of statistics involved.

The page for ASDL at Gatech may be educational for you. They are the largest, most well known graduate program for aerospace systems. [Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory | Georgia Tech](http://www.asdl.gatech.edu/)
