Will be graduating one year early with a program dual enrollment so at 17yo will have AA and HS diploma at the same time.
HS counselors are saying this will disqualify some scholarships since it will be a transfer not a true freshman. Is this true at Vanderbilt? Based on FA it doesn’t seem to matter.
How do I find out how Vanderbilt handles minors? Would on campus living be allowed?
Another consideration is sports. Are transfers able to play sports if they are coming straight from HS sports?
Vanderbilt is #1 choice.
usually if you earn the AA degree WITH the high school degree, you are not considered a transfer but a first year student. You may have enough credits to have junior standing when you start, but that’s not that unusual as many true freshmen start with AP or IB credits, but that just gives them some extra privileges such as early registration or not having to live in the dorms.
For NCAA sports, you have 5 years to play 4 seasons/years. The time starts to run when you take your first college class after graduating from high school. There are some who don’t take a class for 2-3 years and the still have their eligibility in full. There are some like Russell Wilson who complete their undergrad and still have eligibility left so go to grad school for a year or two.
Usually, it is college courses after high school graduation (or otherwise leaving high school) that would disqualify you from frosh admission to most colleges. You can check each college’s specific rules on the matter.
