So, I have a degree in Math. I wanted to be a teacher, but I ended up hating it. I love working with computers. After giving up teaching I've gone around a few Helpdesk type jobs but they just don't offer a salary I want to raise a family on. I am considering getting a 2nd degree or a Masters in Computer Science or something similar. Everyone says get a Masters, but I have no background in CompSci, other than basic computer knowledge, and most of the Masters programs prefer you to have a BA in CompSci. If I'm going to need to take a bunch of prerequisite courses, should I just get a BA in computer science, and worry about the Masters later? Maybe get a job that will pay for my masters? I think it would be cheaper to get a 2nd BA, since I would just need to take the major courses, and considering the CompSci MA at Drexel costs around $45k! I already have about 40K in loan debt, I don't want to get that close to six figure debt. I don't know what to do, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Math to CS is potentially not a big leap - probably easier than anything else besides EE to CS. But it depends on your coursework.

Combinatorics, logic, probability theory, graph theory, group theory, and numerical analysis all have applications in CS. Even game theory and number theory have some use.

Do you have at least some of those?

The only ones that sound familiar are logic and numerical analysis. I mean, I took Discrete Math, Modern Algebra, Prob/Stat, Calc 3…I can’t remember them all.
