Does financial aid come from the school(s) I'm applying to?

Or is it the government? Or both?

If I'm planning to go to a community college for 2-years then transfer, do I just list the comm. colleges that I'm applying when filling out the FA form?

When I transfer to a 4-year do I apply for financial aid again?

What should I do in order to get the most money?

Financial aid comes from the federal government and the schools. School funding is based on the availability of school administered funds. I would think that most funding for community colleges is federal funding.

When you fill out the FAFSA, list only the schools to which you are applying for admittance in 2009-2010 school year. Yes...list all community colleges to which you are applying.

You apply for financial aid every year. So, you will apply each year using the school you are attending in the fall. Yes...when you plan to transfer to the four year school, you will need to reapply and list THAT school (or schools) on the financial aid application forms.

To get the "most money" complete the forms ON TIME. Submit them to the schools. And apply for scholarships through local sources as well.

But any federal aid (and generally and state aid if there is any) you are eligible for is awarded and administered by the school. If you are eligible for aid you will not get a separate 'award' from the government. You will get an award letter from the school that will include the government aid you are eligible for.
