Some nice looking dives in those videos. I always get a big, goofy grin on my face watching the MNF demo. Someday... ;)

It was a beautiful day for jumping here today though. The winds picked up a little bit in the afternoon (hence the spiraling, which is primarily used to bleed altitude), but you really can't ask for a nicer day than this.

Step 1: Do well enough 4* year to get jump in the summer. Around 400 will be selected for AM-490.
Step 2: Do well enough to get your wings. Usually about 300 do.
Step 3: Come try out. You'll be PT'd all day long, and hopefully you'll receive an interview at the end. About 250 try out, and 25 are selected for the Wings of Green.
Step 4: Survive WoG year. Generally around 23 of the 25 will make it to the Wings of Blue.

...so yes, it's competitive. It has to be by nature, but it's absolutely incredible.
You'll have a better feel for it if and when you get here.

again it varies by year. for the class of 2010, only about 60 or so tried out for the 25 slots. I've heard the usual number is about 125, tho, not 250.

as for WOG to WOB, typically all 25 make it. occasionally one will drop for one reason or another, but only 23 is very low of the 25. The team likes 50 jumpers (25 from senior and junior class)

Actually, I seem to remember that MPA gets greater weight than usual for summer programs. '12, you'll be briefed on this in the near future, but I think the breakdown for summer program selection is 40% GPA, 40% MPA, 20% PEA.

Eagle, we had well over 200 begin the tryout day (they told us 250) and the team is currently comprised of 46 WoBs. It's been several years (at least five or six) since all 25 WoGs made the team. It won't be happening this year either; we're already down to 24.

"well enough" could be 60% academic, or whatever the breakup is now (2010 is 60% ac, 30% mil, 10% athletic, but i things its changing/changed)

that portion makes up your overall point average (OPA), which is one factor of selection. Also into the mix is how well you interact (if you're a meanie everyone hates you, you're in trouble), and how well your squaron does overall (sometimes more jump slots go to higher ranked squadrons than to other squadrons)

I believe we had 109 still standing at the end of tryouts, by the way. And yes, squadron OSS scores can also be important. Some people that I thought would have gotten their first choice did not, probably due to their squadron being in the bottom five in the wing.

There's about 23 GB worth of video on the K: drive, too. If you're interested (and at the Academy), check this one out - it's a pretty good look at what goes on at the 98th.

I sooooo badly want to be in the WoB, so i plan on having quite a few jumps before i go to the academy. So, just for the sake of familiarity, what canopy do they use?
