I'm interested in joining the Air Force, but I'm a bit undecided as of now; however if I start in the Spring semester, I want to start to AFROTC as well.

The reasons why I'm undecided is, I'm a PSYCH major, I need at least my Masters degree as a PSYCH major.

I'm afraid that the air force might interfere with my plan on getting my Masters degree within two years after my BA degree.

What are your thoughts? Or suggestion to a student thinking about the AFROTC as well?

I've been thinking about the Air Force ever since I graduated high school, 3 years later, and I've yet to make a decision, however, next year will be the big year, and I want to make sure I make the right decisions....

If you want to be a commissioned officer, which I am assuming, you don’t have to go through the AFROTC route, you can still try going through Officer Training School after you get your masters. However, if you want to try to get a glimpse of how the Air Force function, you can try AFROTC for a year, or until the 3rd year, which I believe you must go through basic at that point. Problem with trying AFROTC for a year is that even though you may use it to determine if it’s right for you, it’s not a accurate way of simulating a military lifestyle as an active duty personal.

I believe you are bounded by the limit of 4 years of undergraduate school if you were to take a Air Force scholarship, after that you have to be commissioned and may take graduate school during your time in the service.

Honestly, I think I am speaking out of my ass, so I recommend you emailing the FSU AFROTC detachment for a more accurate answer: det145@maxwell.af.mil

Oh thank you for the reply, I would totally LOVE to do the AFROTC… but sadly I found out that I’ll have to stay an extra year at FSU to complete the program. So instead of graduating at the end of 2013, I’ll need to graduate at the beginning of 2015 is what I was told.

:’( Wish I had done this way earlier right after high school. I did contact the recruiter from FSU his name is Jason Wyche.

Since I’m going though student loans for my education, I wont be able to afford another year of expense… especially with a PSYCH degree!

Of course the Air Force is one of the best in the world, I’ll gain valuable experience, life learning experiences I know I know … but it’s just a difficult decision for me. I appreciate your reply : ) Thanks!
