I know there are a lot of air fryer users on here - big recall
@kiddie, thanks for this. My son gave me a Cosori air fryer for Christmas. I just looked and it’s not one of the models they mention. Regardless, I’ll call them tomorrow just to be certain.
I found out from an email from Amazon where I had purchased it
Well dang, ours is one of the recalled models. We are thinking of not bothering with the recall. We never run it unattended so even if it did overheat we’d be right there. We don’t like the way they’re doing the recall - cut the cord and take a picture with the cut cord and they will send you a replacement? Well what if you do that and the replacement doesn’t come or they say you aren’t eligible even though the unit is listed. How long is it going to take them to process and replace 2 million recalled units? Yeah, i think we might just stick with what we have.
Ha. I just tried to call them. “Due to high call volumes, we are unable to answer your call at this time. Please try later.” Well, what did they expect?? Two million units are being recalled. Probably 1 million people are trying to get through at the same time.
I sent this to my daughter today and she did the online registration for the recall. She was so sad to cut the cord, but hopefully they are able to fulfill their part of the deal and she’ll get her replacement in the 6-8 weeks mentioned.
My recall submission was reviewed - I had a typo and had to fix it - hopefully now it will be approved. I think I got in early so this was a pretty quick turnaround
(I was also sad to cut the cord)
Got an email this morning that my recall request is approved - allow up to 8 weeks to get my replacement unit.
They want people to take a photo of them cutting the cord to their air fryer? That is ridiculous. Surely a receipt, or taking a picture of the model number to show they own the machine is good enough. What if someone cuts the cord while the thing is plugged in?
I had to do this very thing on a space heater that was under warranty: cut the cord with less than one inch of cord left and take a picture of the bottom of the heater with the serial number and the remaining tiny bit of cord, both showing in the picture. I uploaded the picture and got my replacement via expedited overnight delivery in less than a week after submitting the info and pix. As soon as my claim was accepted, the manufacturer sent me a message saying I could dispose of the defective unit.
I appreciate this is very different than a huge recall, but I wouldn’t be using a recalled unit for any reason. Even if you are there, something could happen.
Again, mine was a different situation and product altogether, but I think this is standard practice to ensure the defective unit can’t be used again, whether it is sold, donated, or put in the junk pile/trash where someone else could use it.
It’s not perfect, I guess, but it does seem like a common way to deal with issues like this.
Maybe. I haven’t returned a defective electronic item before.
I have returned defective mattresses and rugs. I took phots of the defects. They never suggested I cut those things up. It’s hoop jumping. I bet that wouldn’t hold up in court if it came down to that. If they are so desperate to ensure no one uses the product again, they can pay for return shipping.
I’m cynical. They want people to cut the cord because they don’t want them giving a working product to someone else who then won’t need to buy one. The chances of anything bad happening are pretty small, and enough people will take that risk. And they generously told you that YOU were free to dispose of the unit. Saves them the hassle.
Anyway, I’m totally off topic, sorry!
We got the notice from Amazon that we purchased a recalled item and went through the process to get a new item. It took about a week for our claim to be approved and a new item to be shipped. The tracking says it will be here in a few days. If it makes in on time the whole process will have taken 10 - 14 days.
Got an email that my replacement one was shipped
Got my replacement unit - looks very much like the old one
OMG, just before I went into the hospital, I had a message that something was wrong with my photo. Put on the to-do list for tomorrow!
