I'm from the Los Angeles area and will be flying back for holidays..and I was wondering where i can find the best deals for airline tickets..thanks!

I'm flying by JetBlue (www.jetblue.com). It costs about $50 to $90 for a one way flight from Long Beach airport to Oakland. The rate depends on the day and time, and the sooner you buy the cheaper.
I live outside the US and haven't been in a long time, but I heard about the airline on Conan O' Brien. So don't blame me if something goes wrong, you should know better since you live there.

i always fly southwest from burbank to oakland, sign up for their frequent flyer miles, i think every 8 flights, you get one free one?

Southwest Airlines (www.southwest.com) has good deals too, but you have to catch them at the right time. I would suggest you fly into Burbank or Ontario, and if using JetBlue, fly into Long Beach. Los Angeles tends to have higher airport fees and taxes.

I do not recommend flying out of SFO (busy, and again, airport fees and taxes are high). Southwest doesn't fly into/out of SFO.

Southwest has tickets for $39 one way. They have a lot of weekly specials (Tuesday-Thursday), also, DING can be downloaded and you get daily announcement of cheap fares, down to $19 one way. www.southwest.com

I recommend using www.kayak.com to serach airfares. The website searches Southwest, JetBlue, United (and Ted), American, Continental, you name it, they search it. It's great for international flights to (for those internationals students). And you find the airfare, and then you're linked to the airline's site, so you don't have to face any hassles with third parties like Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, etc.

collegebound09, where do u go to get those southwest tickets for $39 one way? i cant find that anywhere...

The specials for flying within the state of California come on about every 2 weeks. If you sign up for the emails from them they will send you weekly notices of their specials. The specials are where you get the $39 dollar tickets. But, overall I would have to say that downloading their program called DING is the best bet, Ive gotten tickets from Houston to Oakland for $80 one way--much better than close to 180 one way with other airlines.

studentuniverse.com is pretty good

Last year I found jet blue has pretty good offers but southwest has better ones if you can get the special deals. I'd recommend just going southwest and buying a ticket to oakland airport a month in advance so you can get the special fare.

yayaya southwest is having a special where it's $49 one way anywhere in california!

lots of thanks for the tip, tiff!!!!! just purchased two tix and saved 100 bux cause of u....i owe u! dinner at cal perhaps? ;-)

hmmm...Thanksgiving ticket prices are already selling out...$105 one-way for most (well, at least the ones that I can make because I have classes on Wednesday)...ick!

Also, like law said, sign up for the Rapid Rewards program. You get a free flight after 16 flights (8 round trips), but because we are college students (it asks when you enroll for the program), we automatically get 4 flight credits. :)

Count your blessings for being instate. I was checking on Thanksgiving tickets from Oakland to HOuston: $415.30 and there are only 5 of those seats left, then its about $600 everywhere else!

jeeze, in that perspective I certainly am very blessed indeed!

ill take you on that offer, slic! =P
