<p>So I'm trying to do research on which type of harvesting is better for making better biofuels, harvesting algae when it's alive or when you kill it each time. For the alive part, I need to make the algal cell walls more porous, and I figured I could genetically modify the algae to do so. The problem is, I can't exactly find any specific genes that are responsible for that trait. Does anyone know how I could find out such info or how I could find it myself? (I'm assuming the former is much more likely).</p>
