Algebra and Trig

Is college algebra necessary before taking trig or can they be taken with each other? What is trigonometry mostly about? Is it like geometry?

Im asking because I'm thinking of taking both in the summer. I know that I'm really good with geometry for some reason and was wondering if I would have an easy time with trig as well.

At my school everyone in those classes always takes College Algebra first semester then College Trig second semester. I don't think that they necessarily have to be in that order though, it's just the way it has always been done.

If you look at the trig chapters in a precalc book, that's all it is. In fact, the College Trig class uses a precalc book but only does the trig chapters. Basically, well, read [url=<a href="http://aleph0.clarku.edu/%7Edjoyce/java/trig/what.html%5Dthis%5B/url">http://aleph0.clarku.edu/~djoyce/java/trig/what.html]this[/url</a>].</p>

"All you have to do is enter the numbers and push a few buttons to get the answer."

Do you still understand how the problem actually works?

^ Of couse you have to understand how the problem works - that's what math is about!!

Well, there is some math that you can just do step by step without actually learning the math underneath.

It takes me a while to learn math sometimes, since I like to learn why something works the way it does. I kind of want to know how pi was found. I know it had something to do with triangles in a circle..

pi is the ratio of circumference of a circle to diameter of the same circle.

... that's about all I know.

"pi is the ratio of circumference of a circle to diameter of the same circle."

That makes no sense :(.

eh why are you taking these classes in college? is math your major?

I'm a physics major and I want to get to at least calculus 2 by the time I transfer

physics is hard but math is so easy lol

physics is super hard for me....math is super easy...haha

"pi is the ratio of circumference of a circle to diameter of the same circle."

"That makes no sense ."

2Pir / 2 * r = Pi

works but strange way of putting it

pi = pi times d / d, yeah it is

jeez, my college didn't even offer algebra. They expect everyone to take at least Calculus or Statistics.

"jeez, my college didn't even offer algebra. They expect everyone to take at least Calculus or Statistics."

Are you sure about that? Maybe you don't have to take those classes because you took more advanced ones in high school.

Either way, I found out that I don't have to take the classes in the same day. Most of the classes are 6 weeks long so I can take trig after algebra.

For distribution requirements, Calculus or Statistics count.

Algebra does not.

Well algebra is just a prereq to calculus for to me.It wont apply towards my degree but I still have to take it :(.

is it even possible to grad w/ a physics major and have taken only calc ii by the end of their 4 yrs?

he's a transfer student.

Haha, I can take calculus 1 and 2 in the summer in just 12 weeks. Damn I love summer school :). I'll be taking calculus 3 after all.
