Algebra I to Algebra II (self studied Geo., need to take)?

My teacher signed me up for Geometry, but I kept urging her to sign me up for Algebra II. She did so...It shocked me but my question is there anything important for Algebra II from Geometry I need to know? My Algebra II teacher said I'll do just fine (I self-studied Geometry by the way). Is Geometry important for an astronomer or computer engineer? My parents said that its not that important, its just application of algebra I and formulas.

So should I just tell my teacher I never took Geo. and self studied it? Are there any vital topics in Geometry?

It’s not that important for Algebra II but a lot of times you’ll need geometry to understand derivations in higher courses (e.g. physics). I would definitely make sure you know it.

Also, geometry is a basic introduction to proofs, and it’s good to be able to think that way.

I do not believe there any any topics in geometry that are instrumental in algebra 2. This all may depend on your math background, however. For 6th-8th grade, all my math classes in a lackluster education system were simply entitled “math” and we learned up to simply algebra at the end of 8th grade. After moving to a more affluent neighborhood, I was asked which math classes I had taken in my previous school for placement. After some confusion, he put me in Algebra 2 and I averaged pretty much an A the entire year. So I think you should be fine.

I got a lot more out of the teacher than the actual subject.

You should be fine, though.

Well there are very little. I remember that there are a few formulas such as distance formula that you had to remember for Alg II. And like teenager said, geo does appear in other subjects, particularly physics. And physics is important for an astronomer and comp. engineer

I had a 102% in algebra 1 so I went to double in honors geometry and honors algebra 2 the same year. I had an 89% in geometry and a 96% in alg2 so I think geometry is a piece of s*?! but important for life. The only thing you need to know is the formula of a circle and how to calculate s.area + volume of a cube. Trust me I am a hard working kid and there were times where I slept in class, that’s like ageist my religion!
But if you plan to major in physics or math it is a good background to have. In general good for you. Go for calculus at the end.
PS pardon my language ;)

No problem ^^

I had a 106% in Algebra I, in my opinion it was simple.
What types of fomrulas for circles? Area, chords , etc…
My dad is an engineer and he said geometry is not important as much as other subjects.
Any more advice? What do I need in Geometry for Algebra II?
Thanks for all the replies.
Oh and I know the distance formula, I just need to dust the cobwebs off :P

My friend’s school goes alg. 1 -> alg. 2 -> geo. -> ect.
So I think you’ll be fine!

It’s HS Math. If you’re good at it, you’ll be fine.
The math you learn in HS becomes second nature once you get off to college, where you learn the real math you need.

You don’t need Geometry. You’ll go over all that stuff in Algebra II and Precalculus adequately and slowly enough that you shouldn’t fall behind.

There’s actually not many topics that related between Algebra II and Geometry. I took Algebra II this year, and forgot almost everything that I learned in geometry. I only remember a few times in class when the teacher would say “remember you learned this in geometry…?” It didn’t happen a lot, so I think you’ll be fine. If you’re planning to become an astronomer or computer engineer, they’re going to teach you what you need to know in college anyway. I doubt they’ll expect you to remember math you learned in high school.

I just remembered that I skipped Pre-Algebra and never needed it, we went over most of it in Algebra I. It may be the same for Geometry, I hope…

Right on, I’ll be taking physics (I aced basic physics), but in college which would be about 2-3 years for some, you would most likely forget HS math, with the exception of Calculus I or II.

Most people so far have said I don’t need Geometry, there are some topics though that I asked my teacher for. She said she didn’t like Geometry either lol.

Well, I’ll be going to school tommorow, my Algebra II class if full of sophmores, juniors, and two seniors…I’M THE ONLY FRESHMAN!

good job but don’t let it go to your head

^^^ lol its kinda creepy…my friends are all gone.

Yup it sucks, my teacher called me an “all-star” lol

BUMP.

So today we took a “pre-test”, lol it was basic Algebra I, it was sketchy on it, but now I retained everything again. I got EVERYTHING right on it except for some questions which didn’t make sense. Everybody was complaining that is was hard…
