My son is a freshman, mid-way into his first semester and loving Goucher. I received a shocking $15,000 bill from them this week saying that the grant money they agreed to in his package is being removed! When I called to inquire, the entire department was out at an offsite. Has anyone else experienced this? I can't believe they can change the financial package mid-semester. Any thoughts?

You will likely get more feedback and advice if you post this on the Financial Aid forum. There are a lot of financial aid experts who read that forum who can probably offer some good information and advice.

The reality is, this can happen. There was a posting in the financial aid forum earlier this week posted by a student at UMass who had this happen to them. It is not uncommon for mistakes to be detected, especially if you were selected to be verified, and for the school to adjust a package. It is probably most important get in touch with someone in the financial aid office and find out exactly why they adjusted your son’s package.

We are sorry that the most recent statement you received from Goucher is not what you expected. Please contact the Director of Financial Aid for assistance if you have not already done so.
