All the art students competing against each other?

On this forum, i find there's a lot of elite art students. But since elite colleges look for diversity, will the using art as the main focus hurt them because universities don't want a school full of art students? Will this benefit me (who's not into art) in anymore because those extremely qualified will be competing among themselves. I mean all those awards in art probably will mean less and less as the admin officers read more and more about them.

When it comes to the top colleges, there far more students with strong backgrounds in classical music, math and science (partially because their parents pushed them in those fields) than in art. The top colleges’ art students whom I have met have had to battle with their parents to pursue their interests in art.

interesting, will schools like Columbia and Harvard who use a Core Curriculum be more interested in students with strong backgrounds in all the fields rather than a specific one?
