all the things you could do with art!

There are so many and I only know like two or three branches of art like visual art .. ummm errr yah! But I KNOW there are many different branches of art so I was wondering if anyone could post them (aswell as explain exactly what they involve) or maybe some links for me to look at?! Anything will be really appreciated :) Thank you!

If you want lists of majors or specializations in the visual arts, you can consult these sites: http://www.aicad.org and http://www.core77.com/design.edu/ and http://www.npda.org . Then, if you go to some of the websites from the colleges in the specialties that they offer, you'll see descriptions of the fields and the majors. There are a few more sites like this that others may recommend.

Often students who are thinking about studying art in college don't have a particular specialty in mind. They may have limited experience with different types of art. But once they get into their program, they can then choose a major -- not necessarily before they apply to college.

thanx mack .. but I was asking because I'm interested in both art and medicine and I really wanted to combine the two in a proffession (yah I know realllly weird) but do you thik that'[s possible? So if I go to the harvard uiniversity page and go to .. . what there are no art pages but I did go to departments .. and there wasn't a whole lot

footscrubber, Art and Medicine? Hmmm. . .I had a friend in college who was studying to be a medical illustrator.

There are plenty of colleges -- both small colleges and big research universities -- that have strong studio art departments AND send a lot of their grads to medical school. That's what a liberal arts education is all about.

I wouldn't say that Harvard is especially known for its strength in art, but among the ivies, selective universities and top LACs you'll find excellent art departments plus excellent med school placements at Brown, Yale, Penn, Cornell, UMich, CMU, Williams and Wesleyan.

Art and Medicine sounds like "Emotion and Helping People" which sounds pretty much like a definition of Industrial Design.

mmmm what's Indutsrial Design? jkolko?
What do you guys think of plastic/cosmetic surgery since you would have to like "design" noses and stuff like that?
momrath I thought about being a meducal illustrator but surely these days computers do that now .. and probably a whole lot better??

tfs, industrial design (product design) can deal with virtually any manufacturing product that has (or ought to have) a design element, not just be functional. Product designers are involved in the design of cars, nail clippers, furniture, cosmetic cases, machinery, telephones, computers, bags, shoes, lights, the list is never-ending.

Industrial design sounds quite intersting! I'll look into it, thanks you guys
