I’m happy to hear it worked well for you.
Makes me think. On top of all my allergies, I normally faint with shots or giving blood. Hopefully, it will go well and be done.
Just breathe normally (don’t hold your breath) and let your arm hang loose w no tension … you will be fine. It was not painful like others I’ve had over the years, tetanus etc. The shot itself is quite small I believe 0.3 mL for Pfizer and 0.5 mL each for Moderna and J &J.
Nice. But that doesn’t work. For many people, just the thought of giving blood, a needle etc causes them to faint. It’s pretty common. They have special chairs and beds for us. Lol.
I can feel light headed and then just pass out. They have special chairs ( and sugary snacks) for people like me. There’s a name for it too.
No breathing techniques help.
I took a Ceftin yesterday and had a massive reaction with intense body-wide chills (even in hot shower), chest pressure, swollen glands, headache, and a feeling resembling anxiety. Primary care, neurologist and allergist all tell me that this is not an IgE mediated allergy. Once again, it seems the Ceftin contained polyethylene glycol. I am still sick and had to cancel yet another vaccine appointment. I rescheduled for next week.
Have you considered getting a covid test? Your symptoms are not typical for an allergic reaction, your doctors say, right? But some of the symptoms do align with covid.
Maybe get a test just to be sure. I’m only suggesting this since you said your cold and other symptoms started after a visit to your mom in hospice. Just for peace of mind, I would get a test.
Or ask your doctors that question.
I always have COVID tests when appropriate- done last week. My symptoms are not typical of IgE mediated allergic reactions, which cause anaphylaxis. There are a lot of different kind of allergies, and intolerances, with serious symptoms that aren’t IgE mediated.
The allergies called me 3 times and we have had long talks. I am not alone and he was calling another woman with the same kind of reaction. He has tried to get the government to give allergists/immunologists doses to give in their office, as they do with flu shots.
He told me to go to the MGH Brigham site on the grounds of MGH where there is more medical help, and he knows some allergy fellows nearby. He expects me to suffer a reaction that is painful and it may last days or weeks, but I should still go. Plus side effects.
I am not conveying the symptom of “chills” which is neurological. Imagine when you get “chills” from a movie and multiply by 100 and have then all over, with a burning left side of face as well. These are not COVID symptoms at all but I understand why it may have seemed like it.
Editing to add that the neuro reaction is instantaneous after ingestion or injection.
Hope next week works out!
Not allergy related but I thought I’d put this out here as FYI.
Our two sets of parents ranging in age from 75 to 84 yo received their second shot of Moderna vaccine yesterday. We told them to take Tylenol an hour before we left for the appointment. This morning, other than having sore arms out parents are feeling ok with only sore arms.
Here’s some info though. My mom received the second dose in the morning and a tetanus (Tdap) shot in the afternoon after getting a big cut on her big toe, tendon has to be stitched and sutures closed. A doctor family friend told me via text that CDC guidelines okays getting both vaccines because it outweighs the risk of infection. I know not a lot of doctors or PAs/NPs are comfortable with this. I was asked by podiatrist to check on my mom for the next day or two. Mom is doing okay.
Saddened by the news that 15 million doses of J&J have to be thrown away due to contamination. I was waiting for the J&J due to some allergy/medical issues. I think a lot of people are also. Spoke to my SIL and she’s waiting for that one too. Ughh. How can they make a huge mistake like that, and worse what if it wasn’t caught. It’s really unnerving to think they aren’t doubling and triple checking each and every step.
I think that’s exactly what happened and why it was caught
Sounds like it is a company that was founded to speed up the manufacturing process.
I AM really glad it was caught. But obviously something went wrong. The good thing is, they caught it. The bad thing is they didn’t double triple check when performing the tasks to make the vaccine. IF they had, they would have stopped short. Again, just leaves me more nervous.
Absolutely can understand why it makes you nervous. But I think that the other vaccine manufacturers also had issues and were caught in quality.
I have a kid and his wife who work in quality, it’s their job to find a problem before their product ships out.
So my D21 got the moderna yesterday and had no issues. Yay! She will get the next one in 4 weeks. I will post again then. She’s anaphylaxis to wheat and dairy and also allergic to eggs, oats, nuts, peas, sesame, and a wile lotta other stuff.
I wish I would have seen this thread before I went for my vaccine. I winded up having a severe reaction to Pfizer.
I went to a mass vaccination site, told them my allergy history and they had me wait 15 min and sent me on way. I didnt start feeling itchy until about 10 minutes after leaving and by the 30 minute mark, my face was beat red and hives on neck. My throat also started getting real itchy and it was hard to eat.I took some benadryl and my symptioms subsided except throat. I had to start coughing to swallow and promptly had someone drive me to urgent care. Got a painful steroid shot which helped, though it was a super scary experience. Was told I cannot take 2nd dose of moderna or pfizer.
I have never had a reaction to vaccines, besides common side effects like sore arm. I do have a long list of medication allergies, mostly mild, but one having to go to ER for hives.(non anaphylactic) and anaphylaxis to a sulfa drug when i was a baby. doctors have told me to list pennicillin as allergy because of allergy to med in the same family.
I’m sorry this happened, what a scary experience, are you feeling better today? Glad you went to urgent care…also make sure to report your adverse event here, it will help Pfizer as they investigate these types of reactions:
Thank you for asking. I had the vaccine last Saturday, so I am much better now, but it took a few days.
i did report on that website the next day, however my symptoms interestingly enough, were not listed since they werent on injection site, so I had to write it in.
I contemplated playing the lottery to see if I could beat the odds with that too, but havent yet. Lol
Glad you are better, and LOL on the lottery…that’s how I think too!
So glad you are feeling better. I’ve had reactions like you’ve described twice and it is not a fun feeling to say the least!
@MamaBear2001 yikes! Are you signed up with VSafe which is the monitoring system that goes along with VAMS? If so, you will get daily texts for the week asking about side effects, etc. Yours is an important one to note. If they have questions, they will contact you.
Glad you monitored yourself…but geez!
