I’m confused about registering for Chem 111. On webstac, do I need to register for Chem 111 with a numerical section and a letter section (eg. A and 01)? Because I have to do that for the lab 151, right?

^ For both the class and the lab you have to do that.

So for chem 111 you choose (ie) 01 section a
Then you do this again for chem 151- a class time and then the lab section.

They’re two separate classes, with two separate grades.

umm, i’m a still a bit confused. Here are the Chem things I’ve signed up for so far:

L07 Chem 111A 01 (MWF, 10-11), this is the actual class right?
L07 Chem 111A R (TH, 3-4), is this a review session?
L07 Chem 151 02 (M, 2-3)

and now L07 Chem 151 G (SAT, 9-1)

What’s the difference between the Lab 02 and the lab G, and why is the L07 Chem 151 G 4 hours long?! “L07 Chem 151 G” was the only one I could find on open courses and it also happens to be on a saturday! I’m finding it really hard to believe that there is only one Gen Chem Lab letter section left and it already has 26/35 people in it. That only leave 9 more students for that section right? but most freshmen haven’t even registered yet. Can someone please explain what this 4 hour class is and if it’s necessary.

Okay, I read through the course book and found out that the 4 hour is the actual lab session and the one hour is a lecture every other week, is that right? Okay, now my main question is how can I get a Chem lab letter section during the week? I still can’t believe there are only 9 spots left in all of the chem lab letter sections and i can’t register until I actually get there. Oh, and are there any quizzes or tests given during one of the 4 hour chem labs? Cause if there’s nothing like that graded on chem lab, a saturday one wouldn’t be too bad I suppose :/

Okay here’s the deal:
Chem 111: you have class mwf. The thursday section you sign up for is recitation, where it’s taught by a ta (unless you’re in extended) and quizzes are given.

Chem 151: you have class once a week (not sure which day it is this semester, it was mondays last fall). This tends to be every week generally, Dr. Mao will let you know when you don’t have it. Then, you also have the 4 hour section about 9 times first semester. This is when the actual lab happens (the one hour class is a lecture about the upcoming lab or a midterm/final review). Sometimes it can take all 4 hours, since first semester the lab write-ups are due by the end of lab.
And yes, during first semester there are also random lab quizzes. It’s to see if you actually have any idea what you’re supposed to be doing in lab that day. They’re not all that complicated. (We had 2 or 3 last fall)

There aren’t actually only 9 spots left. Once freshmen can register, Dr. Mao will open up more spots in the rest of the labs. This will probably happen in early August, when freshmen engineering registration is open. It’s kept fairly low right now so that upperclassmen can’t possibly fill all of the labs.
Saturday labs suck, or so I’ve been told, btw.
There should be room for 80-100 students in each 4 hour lab once Dr. Mao opens it up. Don’t stress about it until you actually get to register.

thank you so much!
