Allowance for Michigan ??

How much would you recommend that I get for my allowance while at Michigan ?? I tend to use a bit more money than the average of my age.
I think I read it somewhere on Michigan site that average student at michigan spends 65$ a week ?? Would that be a nice amount to spend a month ? 260$ ?

your parents still give you allowance? wow.....
get a freakin job -_-

Yeah, honestly. Don't come on CC and ask other people to plot out your spending habits for you. Especially when you use "more than the average of your age."

Its none of your freaking business whether I get allowance or not. And yes, I will get a job 2nd semester. And I don't think you are in a position to tell me to not come to CC and ask for questions about college. I never asked you to make a spreadsheet about where I should spend my specific money on something. I asked how much money a michigan student spends in an average and as an incoming freshman, you don't think thats a valid question (I have to pay off 40,000 a year and I don't think getting some help from my parents, who volunteered to give me some spending money while im in college, is asking too much ??

Just get a credit card. I suppose having too much cash in your room isn't exactly a safe thing. Building a credit history is important too.

I do have a credit card. I just want to know how much in average people spend in michigan.

~300 a month here

Between $250-300 a month

Its either spent on food or beer

I suppose my parents transfering money from their PLUS loan would be considered an allowance for me even though I have to pay them back later. I don't even want to think about getting a credit card. Makes me think of the one comedian who compared it to an asymptote. The balance may approach zero, but it never will...lol

You can definately get by with much less than 250 dollars. When you think about it, if you're living on campus on a meal plan...what ever will you have to buy besides some alcohol? (Note the reasons Busch Light and Popov are so popular is price) Other than that there is nothing that needs to be bought, besides paying for laundry. Not to sound cheap but 80 dollars a month is very manageable provided you have housing and meals.

Given that I had the Flex 9 Meal Plan so I could get junk food from Cafe Conxion, I probably spent less than $20 a month.

$20 a month??? holy crap, haha...

me ~ $100/month (without paying the bills)
