Already filled out FAFSA and CSS profile for ED, do I need to do it again?

Hello all.

I applied ED to emory earlier this year, and I turned in my FAFSA and CSS profile, in order to qualify for financial aid. However, I am also applying to several schools through regular decision. Will I have to fill out ALL of FAFSA and CSS again?? Or is there anyway I can just send out my previous FAFSA and CSS to my regular decision schools?

Thank you to all who are willing to take out their time to help me, your assistance is greatly appreciated.

For the 2012-2013 school year- FAFSA has not come out yet. You will not be able to fill it out till January 1st 2012.

Much like every other part of your application, FAFSA and the Profile must be sent to each school. You can use the same version of the Profile that you used for Emory (all the numbers are retained), but you have to pay to have it sent to your RD schools as well.

The 2012/2013 FAFSA starts in July, the 2011/12 ends in June. You apply for FAFSA starting between January and March for FA & FA awards. Please check, I may be wrong.

for css, i know for sure that you can send css to RD schools because I already sent it to my ED school and when i sign back in it asks me if I wanna send to more schools. i can also edit it again before sending

I’m really not sure what this post means so I’ll try to clarify the FAFSA.

If you are applying for financial aid for the 2012-2013 school year (that is NEXT school year), you would complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA which becomes available on Jan 1, 2012.

If you are applying for aid for the current school year, 2011-2012, you would complete the 2011-2012 FAFSA which has been available since Jan 1 2011.

If you completed the 2011-2012 FAFSA for aid for the 2012-2013 school year, you made a mistake…and you will need to complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA when it becomes available for completion on Jan 1 2012.

Thanks Thumper1 for that clarification, I was a little confused on what I read on the FAFSA 's website. This forum is a blessing.

I feel like I have a similar question that wasn’t answered.

I know that for the FAFSA, I need to submit one for the new year, but I filled out the CSS previously for an ED school. Do I need to edit it with information with the new year? Or can I send it as is?

You can either send the same information that you did for ED or you can update it to send to the other schools. I think updating is only an advantage if you can either:

Get taxes done in time to update the Profile with final information, so that you won’t have to do a correction later.

or

Use estimates which are much more accurate than your ED numbers, making it more likely that the tentative FA package you receive will be close to the final package. In this case, you will still have to submit corrections, so it’s only an advantage if your ED numbers pretty far off the mark for some reason.

Hope that makes sense.

Is there any advantage in sending CSS as is time/money wise? As in, will I receive more money if I send it earlier?

Thank you very much!

If I sent in the profile using my 2010 tax info, and I want to change it as soon as my parent’s 2011 taxes are done, I would have to print out my css profile, and send it to admissions? Do I white out the parts that I am changing?

Also should I do it before the priority deadline (3/1/12)? I think I may have underestimated my dad’s income for last year, since I believe he received $3,000 extra than 2010.

You need to check the college websites or call them to see how they want Profile corrections done. I remember some wanting you to draw a line through the original estimate and write the final number next to it. I believe some schools don’t require and update if the differences are small enough.

Yes, you should try as hard as possible to get your final Profile in before the deadline. This is hard for some people since fr deadlines are early, I’d give a call to the FA office if it doesn’t like like you can make the deadline.
