If any one has auditioned for the Alvin Ailey BFA Progam I would appreciate any information on the process. In particular, how long the ballet portion was and modern. Was the ballet portion on pointe? For the solo required, did most dancers perform a ballet piece or contemporary? Did it seem everyone adhered to the 2-3 minute time frame for the solo. What was the interview like?

I haven’t auditioned nor do I plan on it, but many of my friends did last year. They said the audition was an hour ballet class, 30min modern class and then a solo. The ballet portion is not on pointe. Pointe is not mandatory to attend the school. They’re program is more modern based. They said genres of solos ranged from ballet to competition like jazz. Just do a solo in what you feel you will do best in. As for the interview I dont know anything. Hope this helped.
