Am I a possible Ivy League candidate?

@Wisdom2share ohh okay haha. I’ve heard of it, wouldn’t that be more of a reach?

@rebecca1234 Amherst is still a reach. But your stats are honestly fantastic. And unlike the top ivys that have acceptance rates in the single digits, Amherst is about 14% and Williams at 17%. Top tier LAC (look up WASP) should be considered over low tier ivys no question. I chose Amherst over Georgetown and Brown. Easy decision. (Rejected from Yale)

Just apply everywhere - you will get into somewhere great. I agree with one of the comments above, your safety schools are too safe with your stats. It’s not unrealistic to say Tufts and BU are safe for you.

How many schools do you plan to apply to?

@Ahowooh thank you so much! Yeah, those are definitely schools to consider. I wouldn’t have any problems, they’re fabulous schools, but I’d prefer a city and most of the top liberal arts colleges are more rural…but definitely something to consider. Thank you.

I chose safe safeties because I’m literally such a pessimist so I need fallbacks for the worst case scenario.

@ClarinetDad16 I really don’t want to apply to more than 15…

@rebecca12345 are west coast schools out? Because Berkeley is right there by san fransisco and I would place it above Tufts and BU any day.

Someone mentioned some all girls schools, so I assume you are a female. What about Barnard? I think your profile may make it a reach (not high reach) for you.

@Ahowooh I live in NY and I would rather stay on the northern east coast. Like in between Boston and Washington DC.

@oldfort yup! My name is Rebecca after all, haha. Barnard would be a great option, I’m looking into it. Preferably I’d like co-Ed though. But just because Barnard is in NYC, I think it could be a good choice.

Amherst, Williams and Middlebury are all reaches, and they are for almost everyone. With the safeties you have mentioned in the mix you should be fine.
Your Essays and letters of recommendation along with keeping your grades up should be your focus now.
If your essays and Lor’s are strong I am willing to bet you get into two or three of your reaches, maybe more.
You are clearly an exceptional student! Best wishes to you!

@GreatKid thank you!!! I’m really hoping. And honestly thank goodness my parents made sure I was in plenty of writing enrichment classes because I’m feeling really good about my essay.

Get “For Love of ACT Science” and do the exercises in it. Take lots of practice Science ACTs. You need to do something about it.

@rebecca12345 If you decide you want to retake the ACT for your science subscore, and I’m not saying you should because I think you already have a great score. However, if you decide to, there are some youtube videos that discuss strategy for the science section. It’s really more of a time management issue as the science itself isn’t supposed to be anything beyond a 9th or 10th grade level class. My son watched some of the videos and implemented the strategies, and raised his score 4-5 points in the science section. I’m just throwing that out for whatever it’s worth.

@rebecca12345. it will be a low reach, plenty of kids who fit well for Ivies are mostly likely to make it there. I just feel that if your safeties are too safe, they can still reject you. This past year I have seen both extremes. My D’s friends twin girls one was the valedictorian of her class with great EC’s who should have been in one of the tops schools got rejected from every Ivy, and her twin who was the salutatorian with equally good record got into 2 ivies and Amherst but was waitlisted by BU! Colleges do want to protect their yield.

@sattut @bahiablue the problem is that I’m absolutely drained and DO NOT want to take any more standardized tests. So I’ll take my 28 science and roll with that. Thank you for the suggestions though, I’ll be sure to pass it on to other people who struggle with that section like I did.

@rebecca12345 I totally understand and don’t blame you. Your score is great as it is. Wishing you all the best!

Thank you, everyone!

Add Swarthmore, Bowdoin, Carleton, Hamilton and Vassar for LAC’s and Brown for Univ.

@Chembiodad visited Swarthmore, did not like it at all. But for the rest, thank you!

Also add Oberlin and Kenyon - both in Ohio
