We do have Naviance, but our school only switched to the 100 point scale 2 years ago, so there is very little data for most top schools. My school actually only sends weighted, and all B+'s in AP classes would put a student in the top 5% of the class.
If you are truly happy to attend Alabama and its affordable then you are in great shape. Apply anywhere you like but assume you will be going to Alabama. What we see here all too often are kids who are rejected everywhere but the safety school and are devestated. Don’t let that be you. Be very honest with yourself about how happy you would be to attend your safety. My D has a couple of safeties she loves. She will be thrilled to attend and so everything else is gravy.
I love Alabama. I can graduate debt-free as well if I attended.
For those schools, in all likelihood your application is going to be tossed in the recycle bin without a second thought. You can apply to 1 or 2, but don’t expect anything. You’ve got plenty of great options available. Rankings are extremely unreliable anyway.
An 88 may be seen as an A-, depending on how your hs views it. The more rigorous the hs, it can matter that you fall into the top 20%, not higher.
But your posts seem to reveal you don’t know how tippy top admissions works. That’s a problem. Eg, it’s not just GPA. They look at the transcript for actual courses, rigor, and grades. Lower grades in classes related to your major can affect chances. Your ECs and how you present them matters. And much more, incl how you present yourself in the app/supps. Dig into what these colleges look for.
I mean, I have all A’s and B’s and a most rigorous courseload, if it matters. I will have have 18 semesters worth of college-level courses when I graduate HS and mostly Honors/Advanced other than that. I have mostly A’s in social studies and English classes, and am on track to get a 3.9+ my first semester of DE. The B’s and B-‘s usually came in STEM courses.
You asked a question and you have received many answers. Most of the answers are not what you were hoping for. Apply to a few T20 schools but have some matches and at least one safety school.
See, OP? You still answered with stats and rigor. Every bit of the rest of your app pkg matters, too. Do we assume you’re a humanities wannabe and have relevant ECs in and out of the hs?
Maybe you do. But the app/supp form a self presentation. And the competition is tough.
But it doesnt matter–1000s of applicants with all As in all courses. And top scores. I think you are wasting time and money applying to T20 schools
I asked if I was academically qualified. Obviously it’s not the only thing that is considered, but it is the most important bar to clear. I don’t think I have any matches unfortunately, but I also have an option already.
I would deeply regret not applying to WashU for their PNP program. I could possibly ED II if my parents let me. Other than that, I guess I don’t need to waste $? I do love Claremont McKenna though.
And a very good option. Congrats.
OP don’t let others’ negativity stop you for trying for what you want. You are in good shape. You have an acceptance to a school you love and can afford. If you get nothing else, your already fine. @lookingforward is right. Schools look for more than grades and stats so if you have a few schools you truly love and can afford, put a real effort into crafting the best application you can. Find out what those schools are seeking and make sure that you show it too them. No one here can tell you if you will get in or not. If your family can afford the application fees and you have a good reason to think those schools would be great for you, then give it a shot. This site is full of stories of perfect GPA and perfect score students who are rejected at the schools you are targetting. But there are also stories of students with less steller stats who are admitted. We don’t know you well enough to know if you have a chance or not. Take your shot and be glad that you are already in a great position.
Update: accepted into Binghamton and U of SC.
Another update: Transfer option at FSU (had a 2.1 GPA first semester…), and I received in-state tuition + $500 a year at South Carolina. Pretty satisfied with my decisions so far.
Congratulations with all the acceptances! You are doing great!
Thank you.
Edit: I was wholly unqualified… absolutely shocking!
So you went for T20s? Well, at least you tried. You won’t be wondering “what if?”. Hold your head high and move forward! Oh, where is your destination?
You had great fallback options, so you needn’t feel bad about striking out with the T20s.
Bear in mind that the competition these days is just brutal. I followed the Rice admissions threads on CC this year, and some of the results made me–a disinterested outsider–feel like crying. There were kids with 4.0 uw GPAs, tons of APs, super-high SATs and ACTs, and impressive ECs who didn’t get in. Worse yet, there were kids with both strong records and compelling personal stories who dreamed of going to Rice, whose clear first choice was Rice, who conveyed their love of the school to the admissions staff, . . . and who still didn’t get in. I’m sure that similar scenarios played out at all of the T20s. At least you aren’t having to deal with the sort of emotionally wrenching and downright heart-breaking rejection that these applicants faced.
I know that you got into Alabama. I have a niece who just graduated (she enrolled from OOS), and she had a great experience. Good luck wherever you end up!
