Am I applying to enough schools?

Does anyone know if CCM, Roosevelt, and Otterbein have time slot auditions at Chicago Unifieds? Or what schools have them?

NOCCA Junior - look on the Otterbein thread or search on the forum for unifieds. Otterbein used to have a complete list of the schools on their web site, but I think now it is a separate web site just for unifieds. That site has been posted on this forum fairly recently. I think all the schools that you have questioned will be found in Chicago.

I don't know if Roosevelt goes to the hotel, but their school is also downtown near the spot where unifieds are held. We knew people who did that audition when in Chicago for unifieds last year.

NOCCA JUNIOR,

I may be way off base here, but I think it would be worth it to talk to your local school, church and community leaders about monies that might be available to help you out with your travel costs. Please take Ericsmoms advise and call the individual schools. Explain your situation, tell them about yourself and and ask their advice. It can't hurt to ask and sometimes schools

can get very creative! I wish you the very best of luck in your adventures!

Here is the link for schools on the official unified list (other schools such as CMU and NYU also go at that time):

CCM and Roosevelt definately do. At least they did a couple of years ago when I did it.

The four schools you have applied to are all great programs. I agree with many here that you should apply to one or two "back-up" programs. It seems as though you are in NY - I would suggest Fredonia - it is a BFA - and for NYS residents, a really good "best buy". I have no idea how talented you actually are - but getting into Fredonia, while not as competitive as your initial four schools, is not a walk in the park to get into either. You may want to also look at at least one BA program - just to be safe. Good Luck!

NOCCA Junior:

Ericsmom has given you the right link for the Unified schools. As for Otterbein, yes, we do have several slots left for Chicago. We do 15-minute auditions there, and we can often work around the rest of your auditions. Instructions on how to arrange an audition are on this page:

<a href="http://www.otterbein.edu/admission/talent/theatre_dance.asp%5B/url%5D">http://www.otterbein.edu/admission/talent/theatre_dance.asp</a></p>

Hope to see you in Chicago!

Thank you so much! I will be sure to call Otterbein today to schedule an audition.

I hate to be a pessimist, but on the off chance you get sick and cannot audition at the Chicago unifieds - with almost all of the auditions for your selected schools on that weekend - make sure there are audition dates after that that you could reschedule to (on campus for example although I know this is a financial issue for you) or make sure your backups are in place.
Like I said, I hate to be a pessimist, but I have heard of several students having to reschedule at least one audition because of illness. It does happen!
Good luck to you!

We live pretty close to SUNY Fredonia and have some info on the school if anyone is interested. My d auditioned last year and got accepted but chose to attend elsewhere. It is an audition BFA and we felt, somewhat easier to get into than most of the others on her list, but not a sure thing either as we know a couple of talented students that have not gotten in there either. They are adding a dance major to the univ.(we were told at the audition last year) and this may help MT because they have been criticized for being weak in dance in the past. Not sure when the dance major will be added, but I think this year or next year.

I think 4 or 5 is definitely too few if those are the only ones with no safeties. Even if you are absolutely top of the line, the auditions are so subjective and selective, it could just be that those few would not select you. And the money to apply in the long run is nothing compared to the possible differences you would be paying if choosing from acceptances of 2 schools. Have you looked at the price tags of those schools? I'm sorry this sounds negative, but if you can't afford to apply to more, can you afford to go to any of them?

Well, there are many scholarships that I'm applying to. My minority status, my economic status, and my academics will get me plenty of money for college, I'm pretty confident of that...it's just that there are no scholarships for going to college auditions.

is this Grant from cmu pre-college??!!?

Yes hey who is this?

uhh one of the seven Jessica's who was there.
I was Lauren P.'s roomate!

Haha you were actually my second guess...there are four Jessicas that I can remember at CMU. It seemed to be a popular name.

the first page of this thread depresses me....
someone mentioned that transfers have even less of a chance than freshman....im so stressed out i feel like throwing up
ugh

me too, amy!! except that this year i feel more prepared than ever....but being a transfer is SO TOUGH!

NOCCA - do you have any safety schools on your list? Have you checked out a non-BFA program that you could apply to based on academics? Many of the BA's allow for video audition for scholarship money. The suggestion of Illinois Wesleyan made earlier on this thread is a good example. You're in a great position with good academics and SAT scores to set up a nice back-up plan. Check out SoozieVt's list of recommendations for BA schools that have an MT emphasis.

ElliottsMom

P.S. Elliott from CMU pre-college says "you got this college thing Coco"

Lol oh Elliott I heart him so. He's so optimistic and lovable. Tell him I said hi!

nocca- I think that you should definitely audition at more schools! Do some walk in auditions in new york city when all the schools come in... Honestly, no matter how good you are, you might not get in. I applied to all those schools, plus more, and I only got into NYU... I know I can sing... I got into school. haha... but for reasons out of my control, I got rejected at others... you need to make sure.
