From what I understand admissions is based 50% on Grades and Coursework, 35% Essays, and 15% Resume.

As far as grades and coursework go, I'd like some feedback as to how well I might do at Berkeley in the prerequisite courses for Haas and in the more competitive/weeder classes. I'm a little worried by a lot the recent posts on the level of competition and grade deflation at Berkeley.

I am asking this question under the assumption that how good or bad I've done in high school correlates to how well I would do at Berkeley in academics (if such a correlation exists). I am a senior in high school and have been accepted to Berkeley.

My stats are as follows:

SAT I: 680CR, 740W, 760M

SAT II: 730 US, 750 Bio, 770 Chem, 790 Math IIC

APs: 3 Physcs B, 4 Lang, 4 Chem, 5 US History, 5 European History, 5 Calc BC (5 subscore), 5 Biology

I have yet to take the AP tests for Stats, Physics C, US Govt, and Literature, but this is probably irrelevent information.

I am ranked 15 out of a class of around 730.

I can promise you that your high school achievements are not the best judge of your academic success at Cal. Myself, I scored a 1560/1600 on the SAT's (top 99th percentile for the old format) and a 5 on the 6 AP tests I chose to take. My current GPA in an easy major: 3.3 which is pretty lackluster. Getting into HAAS isn't about how smart you are: it's about studying a lot for the BA 10 class and being a 'worker-bee,' so to speak, for your first 1.5 years at Cal. In other words, if you're set on going to HAAS and willing to commit yourself to academics, you'll get in.

Yup, sorry to break it to you, but your high school achievements don't always correlate with how well you will do in college. I agree with bearslair; getting into Haas isn't really about intellectual ability. It's really about how well you can GPA-whore and memorize small little details in BA10, and that's why I would never want to be a business major.

^^ Nothing to be sorry about. I appreciate that you took the time to post. I'd rather have information than be completely ignorant.

More replies are welcome! Please keep them coming.

High school achievements mean nothing in Haas admissions. No prediction based on high school achievements is possible for your competitiveness of gaining admission into Haas.
