I don't know. :(
Which do you think I should prioritize?

I'm already taking 6 AP classes, three of them being sciences. (Physics, Bio, Chem)

All of these will be at the same time.
-Editorial internship (3-4 hrs a week)
-Swim team, swim captain (20-28 hrs a week, will fluctuate as we approach leagues fall only)
-Swim instructor job (12 hrs a week, fall and winter only)
-Swim manager for boy's swim (12 hrs a week, winter only)
-DECA and/or FBLA (not sure, will probably be more work in the spring)
-Robotics Club (not sure, will be huge time commitment during building season)
-Key Club (varies, volunteering and I'm part of several committees)
-NHS (also varies for same reasons)
-Volunteering at two local hospitals (3-6 hours a week)
-Tennis/Track (not sure which I'll pick yet, will be 10 hrs a week)
-Orchestra (morning class including after school sectionals, 8-10 hrs a week)
-EHSL tutoring program (1-3 hrs a week)

There is probably other stuff that I'm forgetting..but yeah.

Prioritize the clubs you enjoy the MOST. This is a lot of work, so please optimize your time management skills if you do all of them to avoid snapping in the middle of the year. Good luck.

If it matters, I’m going to be a senior next year.

That’s way to many commitments, even for a senior. You are not going to have enough time to do all those activities and make time for studying your courses.

I think that if you have to pick between extracurricular, for sure pick swim team captain and the editorial internship. The rest also sound very good but commit to the ones you are most passionate about. Also, you have an estimate of 68 hours per week to spend on extracurricular. You unfortunately won’t have enough time to do everything.

If you don’t need sleep, you are good to go.

:( hmm
Forgot to add, I’d also like to try doing Speech and Debate next year

Well obviously you can’t. You can’t do every single thing your school has to offer, not only is it not humanly possible but who the heck wants to. Quality over quantity, drop some of those small clubs that you have no leadership in and focus on a couple big ones.

You really shouldn’t need an Internet forum to tell you how to prioritize your time. That’s something you learn yourself. Maybe if you spent less time on CC fishing for attention you’d have more time for some activities. Plus there’s no way you’ll get all those activities in and get an A in 6 AP classes, its not possible. And don’t take that as a challenge, accept it as fact.

It doesn’t take an expert to know you gotta slim down your list, why did you even post on here? Take off DECA if you actually want advice from a stranger, but its more likely you want to show off your grand list of EC’s. Chill out and enjoy your high school years. All that chlorine must be getting to you.

If you love them and enjoy spending a significant amount of time doing them then no one can tell you that you’re doing too many.

take out the ones you aren’t sure about.

All of your clubs are of extremely high quality. If I were you, I would keep the internship, all/most of the swim commitments, orchestra, and pick one activity between volunteering at a hospital or FBLA/DECA/Robotics (since the swim instructor thing already covers some volunteer/job aspects). But that’s just me. If you really enjoy a certain activity, keep that and dump one you’re just doing to pad your resume, even if you consider the former a ‘weak’ EC.

@NewDivide
I’m interested in majoring in engineering and business though. Is the experience gained from DECA not that valuable, in your opinion?

This isn’t really that impressive in light of what other people have done on this site, all things considered.
I haven’t done anything extremely significant, I’ve just invested my time into things that I’ve been interested in.
Perhaps I’m sincerely trying to obtain advice.

Then I don’t fault you, it’s just hard to discern those kinds of people on CC anymore. And since that is your intended major, I would say keep it. I would advocate strongly for FBLA actually, I feel very passionately about my chapter and think its a great organization. (I’m actually chapter and region president, but that’s beside the point). I don’t know how your chapter works, but for someone who is in an officer at our school there are weekly meetings (while general members are bi-weekly). So you have to determine whether that’s something you have time for, granted its not much, but then there’s the Regional Leadership Conference and then if you qualify the State Leadership Conference. So it can be a lot if you actively pursue it, but being a being a general member is fine since it is such a great organization. Sorry for jumping to conclusions, no hard feelings.

FBLA at my old school wasn’t a ton of work, but we’d all do well at SLC and RLC. I would’ve run for regional VP but I moved. Alas!

Anyways, I’d say it’s better to do a few things and really go above and beyond with them than to do 500000 not well at all. Pick the few that you like and delve into them. I recommend Cal Newport’s How to be a HS Superstar. School clubs, unless they’re competitive are usually pretty dull.

Tennis is a nice sport for girls because it ends very early in the school year. However, given you’re so into swimming, why not drop tennis/track? You can always pick up either later in life and unless you’re very, very good I don’t see them being helpful. I would honestly drop some of the volunteer committees unless you are really a community service type.

The editorial internship, hospital volunteering and robotics (assuming your school has a good team) along with a sport and orchestra and a club or so seem like plenty. You need to leave time to breathe.

Our FBLA and DECA chapters are pretty well established. We have people go to Nationals and win awards every year.
As for Robotics, I’m actually helping to found it. We’re starting the club this year. I’m not sure how competitive we’ll be, but we’re going to try hard to do well in competition.

I mostly do tennis and track for fun, so I guess it would be okay to drop them.
Both of those sports in our school are in the spring.
