Am I on the right track for college?

I have just finished 8th grade and will be starting high school in about three months. I really want to go to an Ivy League school and be a neurosurgeon. Here is the classes I plan to take:

Freshman:
AP World History
Language Arts 9
Physical Science
Chemistry
Accelerated Geometry
P.E.
French 1
Band

Sophomore:
AP Government & Politics
Language Arts 10
AP Chemistry
Biology
Accelerated Algebra 2
College Computer Applications
French 2
Band

Junior:
College US History
AP English Language & Composition
College English Literature
Anatomy & Physiology
AP Physics B
Math Analysis/Trigonometry
College French 3
Band

Senior:
College World Civilizations
College English Prep
College English Composition
AP Biology
Science Research
AP Calculus AB
College French 4
Band – Weighted

If I take all of these classes and gets A's I will probably be the valedictorian of my high school. I am also on the dance and golf team. Am I on the right track? Should I take online AP courses or self-study. Also these are all of the college/AP courses my high school offers so I can't take any different ones.

Yes. Now go home prefrosh. Don’t come back until end of sophomore year.

Well, you’ll definitely get into a college. No telling if it’ll be Yale or not. You’re on the right track, but this early in the game, I suppose everyone is. Be willing to change your mind throughout high school, don’t restrain yourself to one certain path.

Also,

If.

I agree with Kongo. Don’t come back until the end of sophomore year, when it’s time to think about college. Enjoy your high school years, get the best grades you can, take the classes YOU want to take, and you will be fine.

Why do you want these things?

In 8th grade I didn’t know there was a thing called AP.

@halcyonheather:

Well originally I wanted to be an OB/GYN. I went to my mom’s appointment once and absolutely loved her doctor. Then I got to thinking that if I were an OB/GYN I could only deliver babies and save their lives but I couldn’t do anything with saving other peoples’ lives. If I was a neurosurgeon then I could find cures for diseases that people die from. Also I am a very detailed oriented person and that quality is what most neurosurgeons have.

^
Why Ivy League undergrad, though?

You need to have good extra cirriculars. I never figured out how to do that, but the sooner you do the better.

I’m going to tell you what I told someone else today

 1. you’re a rising freshmen, this is way to soon to be worrying about this
 2. do not define success as acceptance into the ivy league
 3. a lot will change between now and your senior year. I guarentee that you’ll look back on this in 4 years and laugh (don’t worry, it happens to all of us ;)). goals and desires change. not to mention, you’re schedule will have turned out completely different, and you will be shocked at how easily you say “If I take all of these classes and gets A’s I will probably be the valedictorian of my high school.” don’t underestimate how difficult HS can be.

good luck :)

^which would result in a lot of people lying about their age lol

besides, the prep school forum has kids who are freshmen ;)

“Like, what 13 year old is so obsessed with college?”

There are barely any 17-year-olds as obsessed with college as people on here. (I mean, in some threads we basically post our course schedules to entertain each other. :D) I think the people obsessed with Ivy League schools tend to be a little younger because they haven’t realized how impossible it is to get in.

One pet peeve about this website is that people just tell 13-year-olds to go away, but when juniors ask what they can do to improve their resume they’re told it’s too late - you really do have to start your ECs in 9th grade or at least 10th if you want to show commitment, and I think 8th grade is a good time to start thinking about college a little.

^but it’s a dangerous time to come on CC. this place drives you mad if you’re not careful
I would say we need some middle ground. I think around the middle of sophomore year wouldn’t be too bad :)

you’re in 8th grade, just chill. you shouldn’t really be concerned with college yet considering you aren’t even in high school. and also, you did a good job planning out all your classes but i doubt that’s the way things will go. relax, pick up some volunteer jobs. don’t start worrying too much about college until the end of 9th/10th grade. and chances are, you’ll want to change your dream career in about junior year. keep an open mind and just do your best in school, don’t start stressing about colleges and coursework yet (:

Find something that you can dedicate yourself to.

Freshman year is when you’re supposed to get a sense for high school. You aren’t supposed to care about college yet.
Just take a challenging schedule and do well. Get involved. The rest will fall into place.

@redhuntinghat: Actually my parents don’t care where I go to college just as long as I go. I had to practically drag my mom to the high school to even fill out my schedule. The only reason I am wondering about college is because only two people have gotten into Ivy Leagues from my school and I want to go to one as well.

^
Again, why?
There are thousands of colleges in the United States, and wanting to go to a school in a specific athletic conference for no particular reason when there might be another college you’d like better is silly. Not all prestigious/selective/good colleges are in the Ivy League, and the schools in the Ivy League are all different from each other and liking one doesn’t mean you’d like them all.
