Today, I decided to do something very dumb.
I just found out yesterday that some schools allow students to submit creative writing in their additional information section as an alternative to the visual/performing arts portfolio. I applied ED to Williams so, unfortunately, I didn’t have the opportunity to submit a piece. So I decided to email the dean of admissions to ask her if I could submit a poem. I misinterpreted the automated reply from the admission office’s email address as a green light to send it in. After sending it in, I received an email from the dean telling me that they don’t review poetry as part of the arts submission process. I told her that I submitted a poem already because I got the okay from the admission office’s email address and asked her to ignore it. An hour later, I released that I didn’t get an okay and sent her one final email apologizing for misreading the autoreply and causing any confusion.
Do you think that admissions officers will hold this against me? If so, does it ruin my chances of being admitted?
