Semicolons are the bane of my existence and I’m still not sure if I’m using them right. Could someone check this over for me?
There’s always something new to learn; a new language that improves on the old, a new way to optimize, or a new way to interact with your code.
The learning never stops, and when your code improves, you improve with it. When people learn just how dedicated I am to this improvement, they don’t always understand it. To them, it’s just a hobby; just another way to make pixels dance on a screen.
The first one should have a colon, and the second one should have a comma. Semi colons connect two complete sentences, and the second half of each of your example sentences is not complete, so you can’t use a semi colon
Thanks! If you have time, could you also look over this one for me?
Every aspect of technology appealed to me; I would often spend entire afternoons alongside my uncle in a store without air conditioning, observing his methodical assemblies of new computers and careful disassemblies of broken ones.
I agree with @collegebobollege that the first of your examples should be a colon. I also agree that the second cannot use a semicolon, although I might use a dash rather than a colon. But I’d probably edit myself and go with the comma or rewrite the sentence entirely. The semicolon in your third example is not incorrect since both halves are complete sentences, BUT I would use a colon, since the second half explains the first rather than standing on its own. You even use “, and” but the full pause of the colon adds emphasis to the trailing portion.
